Many times, the solution to our problem is prolonged because we neglect to seek the wisdom of God. The frailty of our human nature causes us to try to be independent. This can be seen from the early stages of life in which the moment a child can hold a spoon to feed him/herself, they no longer want help despite the fact that most of the food lands on the floor and not in their mouth. I can recall a day in which I saw this concept played out in the life of my daughter. I walked into the office while she was doing math homework and noticed a puzzling look on her face. Initially, I didn’t say anything because I thought she would ask for assistance if it was needed. However, after watching for sometime and no writing taking place, I realized she needed aid. So, I asked her if help was needed and she quickly responded yes. I then inquired of the reason she waited so long to ask for assistance and her reply was, “I first wanted to see if I could do it myself.” As believers, we should have a biblical view of independence. Our success is not contingent on the support of others but our success is contingent on the wisdom, direction, and support of Christ. James 1:5 NLT If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking. Remember, the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. This means that we should seek God first in all we do before trying to work anything out on our own.

Prayer for the Journey

Father, help me to remember you are there for the small and big matters of life. I know you will not permit me to suffer, if I neglect to seek your guidance due to the frailty of my humanity. I believe and declare that you will prompt me to seek you when I am trying to find a solution on my own. Thank you for never withholding your wisdom from me.

In Jesus’ name, Amen!

1 Corinthians 10:31 AMPC So then, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you may do, do all for the honor and glory of God.

A pure heart seeks the Lord’s will and does everything to bring acknowledgment, value, and honor to His name. Our heart is composed of our mind, emotion, will, and conscience. For Christ to grow freely in us, we need to be pure in heart, that is, single in our purpose and our goal of accomplishing His will. We need the Lord to shine on us and speak to us about anything in our heart that competes with Him for our affection. That’s one of the reasons why it’s so important to spend time in the Lord’s presence. When the Lord points out something that’s occupying our heart, we shouldn’t be discouraged. We should simply respond to Him in prayer and tell Him that we don’t want that thing to take His place in our heart. Through Holy Spirit, we will be empowered to cooperate with God and give Him a place to lead our lives.

Prayer for the Journey

Lord, thank You for coming into my life. Thank You, Lord, for being the light in me. Show me if I have any goal or aim other than You and Your will. Lord, I want my heart to be single focused on completing Your plan for my life.

In Jesus Name, Amen!

Last week we discussed how gardening contains many life lessons. If we were to plant apple seeds, we would never expect orange trees to grow. The expectation of the type of crop that is produced is dependent on the seed that is planted. There is a connection between the seed that is planted and the harvest that is produced. Likewise, the mouth will speak in accordance with what is planted in the heart. Tupac Shakur said, “If you let a person talk long enough you’ll hear their true intentions! Listen twice, speak once." I believe we need to apply this to our own lives. Have you examined the words that exude from your mouth? What do you say when trouble arises? What do you say when blessings appear? Your mouth is a good litmus test of what has been stored in the abundance of your heart. If your words don’t align with what God has said, change the seeds that are being planted in your heart. The more you spend time with God in prayer and reading/listening to Godly resources, the more you will think and speak like Him.

The upright (honorable, intrinsically good) man out of the good treasure [stored] in his heart produces what is upright (honorable and intrinsically good), and the evil man out of the evil storehouse brings forth that which is depraved (wicked and intrinsically evil); for out of the abundance (overflow) of the heart his mouth speaks. - Luke 6:45 AMPC

Prayer for the Journey

Thank you for revealing that what I think, say, and do is a byproduct of what I am allowing to be stored in my heart. I want my actions aligned with your will. Help me to not allow the busyness of life to rob me of the time I should be spending with you. My time with you is a seed that will be stored in my heart to produce good fruit. For this reason, my prayer is that I make You a priority in my life.

In Jesus Name, Amen!

There is a connection between what you say and what has been stored in your heart. If you want to change the words that are coming from your mouth, then you must change what is being stored in your heart. Join me live Thursday 8/18/2022 at 6am CST.
